Kazakhstan update…

I want to introduce you to Sam. I met this young musician on my first visit to Almaty a couple years ago. He grew up in Kazakhstan as the son of a pastor, learning to play piano and saxophone in the local church. Sam attended Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory (named for Kurmangazy Sagyrbayuly, a renowned 19th-century Kazakh folk composer and dombra player).

Sam is currently working on his masters in music at the conservatory. He is very connected in the local music scene and is helping Shana and I organize a concert with musicians in Almaty.

In addition to teaching pastors Biblical principles of worship on this particular trip in September, we have a heart to encourage local Christian musicians wanting to be salt and light in their context. The recording studio our friends are building is also a tool the Lord is using to allow Kazakh Christians to connect with local musicians.

Pray that the Lord would continue using Christian musicians in Kazakhstan to extend His kingdom through the arts. Pray for Sam as he begins his final year of graduate school. Pray for the church in Kazakhstan (Christians make up .01% of the population) to be a faithful witness for Christ.
